Stanley Cup Visits Bridgeville Café As Sightings Begin Around Town

BRIDGEVILLE (KDKA) -- The Penguins' victory parade won't be the last time the Stanley Cup is spotted in Pittsburgh over the next few weeks.

Hockey's most coveted prize is known to grace various places around town with its presence, and has done so in the years of the Penguins' previous championships.

Wednesday evening, after the parade, the Stanley Cup was spotted at the Pittsburgh Bottleshop Café in Bridgeville. Pens assistant coach Rick Tocchet brought the trophy with him for a visit.

Sources say the Stanley Cup will also be making an appearance at the U.S. Open in Oakmont Friday.

Penguins' play-by-play announcer Paul Steigerwald, with ROOT Sports, says the coaches usually get the Stanley Cup first.

Staff and ownership also get the chance to spend time with the 35-pound trophy.

Then, each player on the team gets to spend a day with the Stanley Cup. They usually take it to their hometown, but not always.

The winning team is given 100 days during the off-season to pass around the trophy, which will travel around the world to get to each player.

In fact, the Pittsburgh Penguins got to enjoy some time with the Stanley Cup at Mario Lemieux's pool party Monday night.

Players posted several pictures to their Instagram accounts posing with the Stanley Cup.

No matter where it goes, the Stanley Cup always has a chaperone with it.

The current Keeper of the Cup, Philip Pritchard, has held this position for more than 20 years and even maintains a Twitter account to update followers on where the trophy goes from day to day.

So, if you're in Pittsburgh this summer, keep your eye out. You never know where you will see the Stanley Cup turn up next!
