Police Make 2 Arrests In Woman's Fatal Stabbing In East Pittsburgh

EAST PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Allegheny County Police homicide detectives say they have made two arrests after a woman's body was found inside an East Pittsburgh apartment.

Investigators say East Pittsburgh Police were called to the apartment in the 500 block of Bessemer Avenue around 8 p.m. Thursday for a welfare check.

"When they arrived they had to force entry into the residence. They found a female dead in the apartment. Preliminary investigation leads us to believe the female may have sustained one or more stab wounds. So, at this point, we're handling the investigation as if it's a homicide," Lt. Andrew Schurman said.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office hasn't released the identity of the woman yet.

However, on Friday evening, Allegheny County Police announced the arrest of two suspects. Both 19-year-old Catherine Grier and 23-year-old Keith Blackman are facing charges in connection with the woman's homicide.

Police say the victim died "during an altercation with Grier. She is being charged with criminal homicide, tampering with evidence and conspiracy.

Blackman is charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence and conspiracy.

One neighbor says the victim was in her 50s.

"It's horrible...and I feel really bad for that woman to have her life taken like that. No one deserves that," she said.

Over the past couple of weeks, a neighbor said she saw two people going between the apartment where the woman was found, and another home just a few houses down. The neighbor spotted those people numerous times in one day.

The neighbor hadn't seen those individuals since Monday.

Both suspects are now being held in the Allegheny County Jail as they await arraignment.

Anyone who was in the area of the 500 block of Bessemer Avenue and saw or heard anything suspicious is asked to call the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit at (412)-473-1300.
