Man Arrested Following Shooting At Greyhound Bus Station

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A man was arrested after a shooting inside the Greyhound Bus Station downtown on Sunday.

The victim told police he was there to pick up his wife. He approached the suspect, 27-year-old Todd Griffin Jr., to ask for help because he was unfamiliar with the parking situation.

The victim became concerned with some of the questions Griffin was asking and he turned to walk away. At that time, Griffin began to follow him and grabbed his wallet from his back pocket. The two began to fight and that's when Griffin pulled out a BB gun, shot the victim four times in the back and ran off.

Police surrounded the building and Griffin was quickly taken into custody.

"Luckily, the Zone 2 officers flooded the area immediately. The sergeant saw the man fitting the description coming down in the elevator. As soon as the guy saw the police cars out here, he started pressing the buttons frantically to try and go back up," Support Services Commander Kathy Degler said. "They caught him on the fifth floor."

Police were able to recover the BB gun and the victim's wallet.

Griffin was kicked out of the station earlier in the evening for trying to steal peoples' bags. Police said a security guard injured his back while trying to remove Griffin.

"The security guard also had to kick him out of the Greyhound station because he was trying to steal people's belongings while he was in here and the security guard ended up getting hurt in the process," Degler said.

The victim sustained minor injuries to his back and chest and is expected to be okay.
