Hello Bully & WPHS Hold Free Pet Clinic In Allentown

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Pets are part of the family, but affording their food and medical care can sometimes be daunting.

This weekend, some pet owners in Pittsburgh's Allentown neighborhood, got a little bit of a break.

"There are so many people out here who love their pets and we want to help them give the resources that they need to take care of them," Hello Bully's Daisy Balawejder said.

More than 100 pets and their owners took advantage of the free clinic, hosted by the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society and Hello Bully - a local non-profit pit bull rescue.

"We have rabies and distemper vaccines, we have cat vaccines, we have access to spay and neuter, so they can get a free voucher and go get their animal spayed and neutered if they wish to," Balawejder said.

Plus, there were tons of giveaways like free pet food.

Organizers said they try to hold these events in the most underserved areas in the city - places that may be deserts in terms of pet care.

"Some areas don't have access to veterinary care or pet supplies and you can't always take an animal on public transportation. So, one of the things we need to do is come to where the issues are and bring it here," Balawejder said.

Currently, Hello Bully holds two free clinics a year, but organizers hope to expand the program even more.
