65 Animals Found Living In Deplorable Conditions In Beaver Co. Home

BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - Animal welfare workers seized dozens of animals from a home in Beaver County on Monday.

Officials say the home in Brighton Township was in deplorable condition. Animals were living in dirty cages and had no access to clean water.

"The house was filthy and uninhabitable in the current condition. I went into the garage and there was a strong odor of urine. The temperature inside the garage was hot and some of the fifty rabbits housed there were panting heavily," Beaver County Humane Officer Mary Sparks said in a statement.

In all, 60 rabbits, three dogs, and two guinea pigs were taken to the Beaver County Humane Society.

"The dogs were not allowed water in the home and the dog's water source came from an algae-filled pond in the backyard," Sparks said.

Because the Humane Society is already at maximum capacity, they're asking the community for supply donations, and for people to volunteer to help with the extra animals.

"We are asking the community to assist us with the care of these animals until they can be adopted. Supplies and volunteers are what we need. We need volunteers to clean the rabbits daily, foster homes who may be willing to take a bunny (or two) into their home to help ease the daily care, and of course, families to adopt these beautiful animals," Associate Director Donna Bucek said in a statement.
