Uniontown Pub Suffers Heavy Damage In Fire

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Workers at a restaurant in Uniontown tried to put out a fire that ripped through the kitchen on Tuesday.

Despite the damage, they did manage to save some of the equipment inside.

"We received a call at 4:52 p.m. for a commercial structure fire, O'Gillies Pub on Askren Street," Uniontown Fire Chief Buck Griffith said.

Workers inside got the attention of fire crews.

"We arrived on scene and found some employees with fire extinguishers trying to extinguish the fire. We pulled them out, pulled our lines inside, and found a kitchen fire," Chief Griffith said.

Once crews got inside, it took a little while to determine exactly where the fire was.

"The fire was burning behind the grill area and between the grill and the adjacent outside wall. It took us about ten minutes to get to the base of the fire," Chief Griffith said.

Crews pulled insulation out of the building as they worked the fire, but the flames took their toll on the pub.

"Heavy smoke damage throughout the building and extensive damage to the kitchen," Chief Griffith said.

The chief said there is some good news for the owners when it comes to re-opening.

"That would be up to the health officer as soon as they bring everything back into code. We saved the deep freezers. Both the walk-in coolers are still operational," Chief Griffith said.
