Canonsburg Celebrates 4th Of July With Parade

CANONSBURG (KDKA) -- Much of the chatter heard before you get to Canonsburg is about the chairs. They are lined up several days before the parade.

Sally Bernardi knows.

"Oh my God, I've been coming here 51 years, and they've always line 'em up," she said.

The chairs are the side-show. The annual blow-out parade is the real show.

Jamie Coleman has seen 48 0f them.

"We usually have 40,000 to 50,000 people that show up," she said.

This town is lit up with music, color and pageantry. People really appreciate it.

"This parade, we anticipate it 364 days a year, it's a highlight for Canonsburg and everybody who lives here," one resident said.

KDKA's own Marty Griffin, along with Kristine Sorensen were grand marshals of the parade.

"The crowd is amazing, and the opportunity to have my family, my wife is the grand marshal. My son, walking along with me, and all of the energy from everybody. It's unbelievable. Everybody is enjoying this parade today in Canonsburg. Some very special people also here," Griffin said.

"It means a lot to me being a veteran of the Marine Corps, serving our nation. Proud to be here."

Jeff Gallagher served his country and said the parade validates his service.

"It just makes it worth it, seeing everybody out here."
