Sheriff's Office Arrests 1 Of The Victims Of Wilkinsburg Mass Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Allegheny County Sheriff's Office officials have arrested one of the victims of March's mass shooting in Wilkinsburg.

According to the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office, Lamont Powell was arrested without incident around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A warrant was issued for his arrest last week after Powell failed to show up for his trial on unrelated drug charges in Washington County.

Officials tracked him down after receiving a tip on his whereabouts.

Powell was one of the three people wounded in the ambush during a backyard barbecue in Wilkinsburg on March 9. Five other adults and an unborn baby were killed.

Police charged Cheron Shelton and Robert Thomas in the shooting last month.

They are facing five counts of criminal homicide, six counts of aggravated assault, six counts of recklessly endangering another person, three counts of criminal attempted homicide, criminal homicide of an unborn child and criminal conspiracy.

Investigators say Lamont Powell was the intended target of the Wilkinsburg shooting, and allege the suspects had been looking for him since 2013.

Powell was being held in the Allegheny County Jail until Washington County officials could pick him up.
