Abandoned McKees Rocks House Getting New Life Thanks To Volunteers

McKEES ROCKS (KDKA) -- An abandoned house in McKees Rocks is getting a facelift and a bit of internal surgery, thanks to a Christian group called World Changers.

An anonymous donor purchased the vacant house, and gave it to Faith Bridge Community Church. It's intended as a place for women to meet.

About a dozen teenage workers have come from five different states.

Site coordinator Faith Wyse, who lives on the second floor, says the rebuilt house will help women rebuild their lives - as she did.

"I'm 16 years recovering from addiction and alcoholism, abusive relationships, a ninth grade education," she says. She now has a Master's degree in professional counseling.

A total of 160 volunteers are working at 11 different sites in Pittsburgh. Thousands more are doing the same, in cities nationwide.

Pastor Dan Chaffen, of Cranberry Township, doubles as volunteer crew chief. He says it's a one-week mission trip for the teenagers.

"They actually take a week off of their summer and come, and actually have to pay something for room and board, and come and work just to help people out," he says.

They are indeed changing the world, one house at a time.
