Suspects Sought After 12 Parking Meters Stolen In Greensburg

GREENSBURG (KDKA) – Police are investigating the theft of a dozen parking meters in Greensburg.

"They took 12 of them, which is actually 24 heads. That's a substantial amount of money," said Capt. Robert Stafford, of Greensburg Police. "There's $18,000 in parking meters missing."

The meters, however, only carry around maybe $4 each max.

"Some were taken off the top of the pole, some were pulled out of the ground with the cement going out with the pole," Capt. Stafford said.

Not surprisingly, the cement from one showed up abandoned on the side of the road.

Whoever stole the meters did get away with much money, but the potential charges they face are significant.

"It's definitely a felony charge. The amount of damage is so high now," Capt. Stafford said.

Investigators are looking at video that seems to show multiple suspects and a gray van.

"There appears to be two of them," Sgt. Stafford said. "There was a lookout one and there was somebody at the van."

For now, the spaces are without meters. But don't be fooled if you are looking for a freebee from an alleged felony, parking in a space with a white bag will get you a ticket.

If you know anything about the individuals who stole the parking meters, you are asked to call the Greensburg Police.
