Picklesburgh Celebration Returns For 2nd Year

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – After much anticipation, Picklesburgh is back!

The celebration of food kicked off at noon on the Rachel Carson Bridge between Downtown and the North Shore. If you're going, just look for the 35-foot pickle balloon flying high in the sky.

Dozens of vendors are selling everything from pickle juice to pickle-themed merchandise.

I'Dill Pickles is there where their pickle-themed treats. They have the Piggle, the Wickle and the Fickle.

"The I'Dill Pickle, which is a bacon-wrapped and fried pickle with potato chips," said Tom Petrone, of I'Dill Pickles. "We also have on this combo, our Fickle. What we do is we core a pickle, we stuff it with brie cheese, we wrap it with an eggroll wrapper, and look how beautiful it turns out. We also have a Wickle. This is our pulled pork sandwich with sweet Gerkan pickles and chips.

"It has been a great event to be part of and the people who have shopped with us have been wonderful. Everyone is raving about our pickles," he added.

LaScola's Italian Ice is also serving up a special pickle ice they whipped up just for Picklesburg. They call it Lemon Basil Dill Pickle Ice, and there was a line of people waiting to get some Friday evening.

There are plenty of other local businesses at the celebration, including Butcher & Rye with special drinks.

Market Street Grocery is there, with dill pickle ice cream. Fabulous Homemade Cookies from Canonsburg is also serving up delicious treats.

A demo area is set up to teach visitors about home canning and pickling. Local chefs, bartenders and pickling clubs are on-hand to help teach.

There will also be live music and free activities for the whole family.
