Family Escapes New Castle House Fire

NEW CASTLE (KDKA) -- A family was able to escape their New Castle home Saturday as the structure went up in flames.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. in the 500-block of Belmont Street.

A father and his 14-year-old were inside when the fire began. The father told reporters they heard a popping noise, and when they went outside to investigate, they saw flames coming from the second story of the house.

The two were only able to save themselves, and lost many possessions in the blaze.

Fire officials said the house was extensively damaged and it is not clear if it can be saved.

No one was hurt.
