Wife Charged In Shooting Of Fayette County Commissioner

UNIONTOWN, Pa. (KDKA/AP) - Authorities say a western Pennsylvania county commissioner was injured in a shooting at his home in Fayette County.

According to police, the shooting happened at a home along Crestvue Drive in South Union Township around 1 a.m. Sunday.

When police arrived at the scene, they found 56-year-old Vincent Vicites suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Officials said Vicites was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia with a gunshot wound to the neck.

"At that time, he underwent surgery. He has undergone another surgery yesterday afternoon. He is not out of the woods as of yet. There will probably be more surgeries he has to go through. Furthermore, as a result of the investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police, the wife of Commissioner Vicites, Deanna Vicites, has been arrested for attempted criminal homicide," District Attorney Rich Bower said.

Deanna Vicites, 47, has been charged with attempted homicide, along with other assault and firearm charges. She is currently in the Fayette County Jail on $50,000 bond.

Bower declined to speak about details as to what may have prompted the alleged shooting, but said it was not an accident.

Bower also told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that Vicites was in stable condition at the hospital.

Vicites, a Democrat from Uniontown, served four terms as a commissioner from 1996 to 2011. He ran again for the board last year and won a seat in November.
