Get Marty: Parents Donate Late Son's Unused Medical Equipment To Families With Special Needs

NORTH HUNTINGDON (KDKA) -- It's a Get Marty that has received an overwhelming response.

More than 1,000 people responded to the generosity of a local couple.

"We were flabbergasted," says Romie Boland of North Huntingdon.

Jim and Romie Boland lost their son, Terry, to MS. The Bolands had tens of thousands of dollars' worth of medical equipment they purchased for their son that he never used.

"We just want it to go to folks who can use it," Romie said.

The Bolands did the best they could and picked several different families to give the equipment to.

"I am so thankful," said Cindy Yankowski.

Her 22-year-old son was left severely disabled by a drink driver.

The Bolands donated a shower chair for Alex Yankowski. They are not covered by insurance.

"It's horrible. I see this every day," says Joe Ponsi of Ponsi Shoes.

In Portersville, Ponsi installed a shower-tub combination for veteran Phillip Carson, who has battled MS for 17 years.

"We are so thankful. This will change his life," says Phillips' wife, Linda.

All of the items donated by the Bolands were given to families who have loved ones with special needs.
