Victim's Sister Charged In Deadly Carrick Stabbing

CARRICK (KDKA) -- A woman is facing charges after police say she fatally stabbed her brother Saturday night in Carrick.

Police say units were called to a residence on Merritt Avenue around 10:20 p.m. Saturday for a report of a stabbing.

When they arrived at the scene, they found 27-year-old Machi Brown suffering from a stab wound to the chest. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed on Sunday.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim's sister, 30-year-old Monica Brown, told police that her brother had been drinking Saturday before the stabbing occurred and was behaving aggressively.

The victim's girlfriend told Monica Brown that he slapped her in the face. When Monica Brown confronted her brother about the alleged abuse, she told officers that he began assaulting her and "dragging her around the kitchen by her hair."

Monica Brown told police that she tried to fight him off, but he kept coming at her. That is when she reportedly grabbed a knife from the kitchen counter and stabbed him in the shoulder and chest.

She told officers when her brother fell to the floor she told him she was sorry and tried to help him.

Monica Brown is charged with homicide.

The investigation is ongoing. No further details are available.
