Inflatable Slide Topples At Convention Center, Several Injured

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Several people were hurt when an inflatable slide toppled over at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center today.

For the next few days, the convention center will be filled with people playing pinball and retro video games.

It's all part of the ReplayFx Arcade and Video Game Festival.

There are other attractions as well, including a giant inflatable slide that's two stories tall.

But, the fun turned to fear when the slide tipped over with people on it. Initial reports indicated that at least three people fell and suffered minor injuries.

"I was just sitting here waiting for my son. He was in line waiting for the castle. Some older girls went on it, and they were on their way up the castle, the middle of it, and from there it just went over. I think there were four girls on there, plus the staff that was up at the top," one woman said.

That forced organizers to roll up the slide and take it out of commission.

"Unfortunately, one of the inflatable slides that we had brought in ended up deflating and there was a person on it," Mark Steinman, the director of the festival, said. "We immediately called the company who handles that for us, and said, 'This can never happen again. Please remove this, we want something that's safer."

The four girls were checked out, but should be okay.

Organizers said they are working with the company that provided the slide to replace the attraction.

"The slide was inspected by the state. The next one that they bring in, we're going to have it inspected, and everything is double down and start over," said Steinman.

Despite today's mishap with the inflatable slide, there's a lot to do at the festival. The event runs through Sunday and for more information, visit their website here.
