9-Year-Old Escapes Attempted Abduction, Police Search For Suspect

RANKIN (KDKA) -- Police are searching for a man who reportedly grabbed a 9-year-old girl in Rankin.

Police say the attempted abduction took place Thursday in the 400-block of Oak Alley.

A bald man with a mustache reportedly grabbed the child, covering her mouth and trying to pull her into his vehicle. She was able to escape.

The vehicle involved is described as a black or gray four-door.

Neighbors said Friday that they were stunned.

"I'm just now finding out about this, I was unaware. I have a small child myself," said Pamela Motley.

Some worry the safe street may be taking a turn for the worse.

"It's a nice neighborhood.  Things are just starting, a little bit, this and that the last couple of years.  So I'm shocked to hear something like that," Adrienne Lawson said.

"We gotta look out for each other's children. We do. Especially if that happened. This neighbor, this alleyway, we all got to stay together on that.  Now that I'm aware, I'll be like on it," said Stephan Hayes.

Anyone with information on this incident should call Rankin Police at 412-271-1010.
