Democratic Candidates Clinton-Kaine Campaign Bus Tour Making Stop In Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Hillary Clinton and her running mate, Sen. Tim Kaine, are wasting no time in bringing their campaign to blue-collar voters in western Pennsylvania.

They are on a bus trip through the Keystone state and into Ohio.

On Saturday afternoon, they will appear at a rally in a ballroom at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Downtown Pittsburgh.

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald just got back to Pittsburgh from the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. He says there's been a big response to the weekend campaign stop.

"When we put the word out that Clinton and Kaine would be in Pittsburgh this weekend, within a matter of hours, about 4,000 people responded that they wanted to be at the rally," Fitzgerald said.

Fitzgerald told KDKA-TV's Ralph Iannotti that he thinks Clinton's positive message of jobs and working together is more appealing to voters than the message voiced by Republican Donald Trump.

"Her message really resonated about the future, about jobs and working together," said Fitzgerald. "That's one of the hallmarks of our success over the last few years is the private sector and the public sector, the mayor and the county executive, the different levels of government, our institutions, we work together."

Fitzgerald calls Pennsylvania a key battleground state in the campaign, with its 20 electoral votes. Ohio, another swing state, has 18 electoral votes.

Doors to the Convention Center rally open at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The rally is set to begin at 5 p.m. Around 3:30, people were seen lined up around the block in line.
