Butler Farm Show Features Antique Tractors, Prized Animals

BUTLER (KDKA) -- A 1928 threshing machine makes hay at a farm show that that started 20 years after it was built. It's the 68th annual Butler Farm Show. Antiques director Diana Bowser says this year's event features a record 189 antique tractors. It runs in the family.

"My father started this in 1983, with a few small pieces. And we've grown it into what is now today."

A big part of the show is animal judging. Goats for example. The 4-H kids will parade their animals under the discerning eye of the judge.

Goat superintendent Tina Byner says she grew up in Etna, a long way from farm country.

"I was probably about 23 when I move up this way. Met my husband, and we decided we were going to raise goats."

They don't just judge the confirmation, the cleanliness, the appearance of the goat. They also look at how the youngsters perform in the ring, with their animals. In other words, they don't just judge the kid. They judge the "kid."

The blue ribbon winner was born on a farm. She's Tina's daughter, Melina.

"I know what it's like to lose and I know what it's like to win. So I like winning better because I can make my parents proud."
