Pittsburgh Police Investigating Two Overnight Shootings

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Police are investigating two shootings from overnight. The first shooting happened just after 2 a.m. A 24-year-old man was found near the intersection of South 21st Street and East Carson in the South Side with gunshot wounds to the stomach and ankle.

"The victim an adult male victim refused to cooperate with investigators, so we have absolutely nothing to go on other than a man was shot," said Sonya Toler, Pittsburgh Public Safety Spokesperson.

He was taken to UPMC Mercy, where he's listed in stable condition.

The second shooting happened around 4 a.m. in the 800 block of Brushton Avenue in Homewood. The victim, identified as 21-year old Reakwon Epps, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one arrested for either shooting. Raekwon Epps is the 39th homicide victim in 2016. The city had 35 murders by the end of August in 2015. The final number last year was 57. That's down from 69 homicides in 2014.

The police bureau now has a full time unit that investigates non-fatal shootings. That allows the department to more manpower to homicide investigations.

We do have our crimes against persons staffed fully and we are working to investigate every shooting homicide or violent crime with a number of resources," said Asst. Chief Thomas Stangrecki.

Meanwhile anyone with information about either of the shootings over night is asked to call Pittsburgh Police.
