Heritage Valley Nurses Have New Contract After Strike Threat

BEAVER, Pa. (AP) - Nurses at the Heritage Valley Beaver hospital in western Pennsylvania have agreed to a new three-year contract after threatening to strike for a second time later this month.

The hospital's 500 nurses went on strike for one day, July 19, after negotiations failed to yield a new contract. They had announced plans for a three-day strike beginning Aug. 23 before agreeing to the new deal over the weekend.

The new contract is retroactive to July 1 and runs through June 2019.

The nurses had raised concerns about staff-to-patient ratios and health care costs, both of which were addressed in the new deal.
