Duquesne Freshmen Excited For Move-In Day

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - It's that time of year again - students are heading back to school.

Many local colleges and universities are welcoming freshmen this week.

Today is move-in day at Duquesne University. This year, the university is expecting one of the largest freshmen classes ever with more than 1,500 new students.

"I'm pretty excited, a little nervous obviously, but I'm sure everyone is, but I'm just looking forward to the college experience and everything," Jack Klens said.

It was a busy day on campus as students from all over the country arrived in cars loaded with supplies.

"Clothes, some snacks, a refrigerator and a TV, brought all my video games and movies," Shaun McGowan said.

"Less stuff for boys than for girls for sure," McGowan's mother, Ann, said.

Julianni Dar from Lititz, Pennsylvania will be about four hours from home. She's planning to study biology.

"I'm excited, a little bit nervous. I'm trying to be organized with all my stuff, figure out how to do my room, and meet new people. I'm excited about that one too," Dar said.

"Excited, scary, the beginning of the empty nest syndrome," Dar's mother, Rusil, said.

Once the students are unpacked and their rooms are set, there won't be much downtime before classes start on Monday.

The university has lined up a full list of events for freshmen and transfer students to get them used to their new home.

Freshmen orientation runs through Sunday, while the upperclassmen move in this weekend.
