93.7 The Fan High School Football Preview 2016 Class 1A: Greensburg Central Catholic

Greensburg Central Catholic
Eastern Conference

The Centurions averaged 33 points per game last season and did so mostly on the strength of a strong running game.

This should be a repeat performance for them, though, because the player most responsible for that success rushing the football is back and ready to challenge for the WPIAL rushing title.

Alvin Ross (5-9, 180) is a big, physical runner but he is also capable of running away from defenses as he rushed 209 times for 1,346 yards and scored 19 touchdowns.

Ross's skill set was best put on display last season in a 42-10 rout of Serra Catholic as he rushed 26 times for 374 yards and four touchdown runs of 55 yards or more.

The Centurions will have to replace the production of quarterback Tommy Pellis but senior Dom Eisaman has seen a lot of action and should be ready to step in and take over.

The bulk of the defense returns, though, and that is a good thing, especially since it will again be anchored by 6-foot-3, 240-pound All-Conference defensive end Jassan Eubank.

The Eastern Conference should be a meat grinder, though, as the Centurions will have to beat both Clairton and Jeannette to win the title.
