93.7 The Fan High School Football Preview 2016 Class 2A: Avonworth

Avonworth
Three Rivers Conference

There are a lot of important members on the Avonworth football staff, but the most valuable of them all might just be one who doesn't know the first thing about football...the bus driver.

Say what?

Well, a quick glance at the Three Rivers Conference and it is clear that the only thing Avonworth has in common with the teams it is grouped with is school size because it certainly isn't geography.

Avownorth is in the North but it is in a conference with teams from the South Hills (like Brentwood and South Allegheny), teams in the east suburbs (Serra, East Allegheny) and teams in the West (Carlynton).

Some of those trips are so far, though, the Antelopes may need to take an airplane to get there which is appropriate because the reality is their path to victory every week is going to be through the air.

That's because the Antelopes best player also happens to be one of the best receivers in the WPIAL and he will again be featured prominently in their offense.

Garrett Day is a 5-11, 150-pound senior receiver and the Antelopes only returning All-Conference player. He led the the WPIAL in receptions last season with 56 and may be able to top that number this year.

Avonworth's fate, though, will be determined by how well head coach Duke Johncour can rebuild both lines as they were hit hard in the trenches by graduation.
