93.7 The Fan High School Football Preview 2016 Class 3A: Freeport

Freeport
Allegheny Conference

The Yellow Jackets were 10-2 last season and finished 8-0 in the Allegheny Conference but a repeat performance as conference champs could prove to be tricky.

That's because the Yellow Jackets will have to replace five All-Conference players on defense and all-conference quarterback Ryan Weigold, who threw for 2,229 yards and 29 touchdowns.

That is a lot of firepower to try and replace, especially for a small school like Freeport, but the Yellow Jackets are always a good team so they will find a way to reload and be a thorn - or perhaps more accurately a stinger - in their opponents side.

Despite all the losses, though, there is some talent returning, especially on offense and along the offensive line.

Senior center Noah Freeman (6-1, 245 pounds) was a key cog in the Yellow Jackets attack last season and also doubled as a nose tackle.

Freeman was an all-conference player and is one of three returning starting offensive linemen.

The defense will need to be rebuilt some, but there is some younger talent available so it should again be one of the better units in the conference.
