The Rebels have moved from the Century Conference into the Allegheny which means they will need to get acquainted with some of their new conference rivals.
They will also need to get used to longer bus rides as they went from a league based mostly in the South Hills to one that includes Valley, Freeport, Apollo-Ridge, Deer Lakes, Burrell and Shadyside Academy are not exactly close in proximity to McNeilly Ave.
However, long bus rides aside, the Rebels, who are coming off an 8-3 season that included a trip to the WPIAL quarterfinals, should be very good again this year although there could be some growing pains under first-year coach Rob Carter.
Senior quarterback Nolan Abbiatici will again be the trigger man for one of the more prolific offenses in the WPIAL as he threw for 22 touchdown passes last season.
Junior running back Lionel Deanes rushed for 1,266 yards last year as a sophomore and should add to that with more carries this year as Carter looks to rebuild the receiving corps.
The Rebels will be able to score points but their fate will be determined by how quickly a young defensive unit comes together as there are some holes that were left by graduation that need to be filled.
