93.7 The Fan High School Football Preview 2016 Class 5A: Woodland Hills

The Wolverines, like many teams, are moving to a different conference in a different classification.

But the more things change at Woodland Hills, the more they will stay the same as long as George Novak is on the sidelines,

There are some coaches who are called the face of the program that they coach because they have been there so long and have a long history of success.

Novak, however, really is the face of the Wolverines as he is the only coach the team has ever known.

Now entering his 28th season as the Wolverines coach, Novak has built a program that is one of the best in the state of Pennsylvania as he has produced about 100 Division I players, 13 guys who have gone on to play in the NFL and he has guided them to five WPIAL titles.

This year he will achieve a milestone that will put him in some pretty elite company as he has 297 career wins, meaning he needs just three to become just the 14th coach in Pennsylvania history to win 300 games.

And he has a total of six WPIAL titles (he won one with Steel Valley before he took the Woodland Hills job), meaning he is one short of having won more outright WPIAL titles than any other coach in history.

It won't be easy, though, as he must replace seven All-Conference players and 25 seniors but one thing the Wolverines are never short on is talent.

Woodland Hills has a tough section, though, as they will face West Allegheny, Upper St. Clair and North Hills, but if Novak can find a running back to replace Miles Sanders, they will again be a serious contender for the WPIAL title.
