New Attractions At Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival Include A Haunted Dungeon

WEST NEWTON (KDKA) -- Lords and ladies will parade in iambic pentameter, as jousters and jesters compete for attention, when the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival opens in West Newton on Saturday.

That means vendors and others were busy as Renaissance tradesmen the day before.

"Town crier" Christy Ekis doubles as entertainment director. She told KDKA what's new this year.

"We've got a 'naughty boy' show, called the Righteous Blackguards. They're doing a little bit of an adult comedy show, which is very funny," says Ekis. "And then we've got the young singers. They're called 'The Angels.'"

They're also building a place where angels fear to tread: the Haunted Dungeon.

"It's a work in progress right now," designer Rich Geisinger says. "We're creating the cells for some of our longer staying guests."

Geisinger introduces us to an unsavory group of cellmates. He feels the dungeon is a haunt whose time has come.

"We've been here several years with our family, and we kept looking at it and said this would be great for our own spot. Bring something new here."

The Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival is open for the next six weekends, for more information visit: http://pittsburghrenfest.com/
