Pa. Woman Faces Charges In Death Of Child Left In Hot Car

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP/KDKA) - A Pennsylvania woman who left a 4-year-old girl in a hot, locked car for hours last month is facing charges in the child's death.

Twenty-eight-year-old Brittany Borgess was charged Thursday with involuntary manslaughter and related offenses in the death of Samaria Motyka.

Authorities say Borgess' boyfriend was the girl's father and they had lived together for about three years. Detectives say she dropped her 7-year-old daughter off at school and her 2-year-old son at day care, but was running late for work and drove there instead of taking Motyka to day care on July 22.

After work, Borgess discovered the unresponsive girl. Temperatures reached about 97 degrees that day and court records say Motyka's body temperature was 110 degrees.

According to PennLive.com, a co-worker who responded to Borgess' call for help when she found the toddler, told police when she picked up the child, she "was completely soaked and felt like she pulled her out of a swimming pool."

Court records don't list an attorney for Borgess.
