Police: 15-Year-Old Son Intentionally Set Fire That Seriously Injured Family

LAWRENCE COUNTY (KDKA) -- A 15-year-old boy is facing serious charges after police say he intentionally set a fire that badly injured three members of his family.

The fire started around 2:15 a.m. at a home on Maitland Lane in Hickory Township.

At the time of the fire, the residence was occupied by 35-year-old Herbert Rodgers, 34-year-old Rosanna Rodgers, their 11-year-old daughter, Rosanna's sister 32-year-old Melanie Clark and her 3-year-old daughter.

Herbert Rodgers, Rosanna Rodgers and their 11-year-old were flown to a Pittsburgh-area hospital with serious burns. Clark and her child were not injured.

State police later determined that the blaze had been intentionally set by Rosanna Rodgers' 15-year-old son, Trenton Greaves, who also lives at the home.

According to a criminal complaint, Greaves arrived at the scene of the fire with his aunt around 7:15 a.m. and confessed to police that he had intentionally started the fire. The aunt told police she was driving to the Rodgers' home after hearing about the fire when she saw her nephew walking along the road. He told her that he intentionally started the fire, and the aunt drove him back to the residence.

Police say during an interview, Greaves said he had felt "disrespected" by his parents and sister for years and he thought his parents and sister would be killed in the fire.

The teen is charged as an adult with the following offenses: aggravated arson, arson endangering persons, aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief and attempted criminal homicide.

He was taken to the Lawrence County Jail and his bail was set at $250,000.
