Convenience Store Manager Shot, Injured In Rostraver Attempted Homicide

ROSTRAVER (KDKA) – Police are investigating an attempted homicide in Rostraver early Thursday morning.

According to police, the incident happened inside of the CoGo's convenience store on Route 51 just before 4 a.m.

Rostraver Police Chief Gregory Resetar said there is no evidence that what happened was an armed robbery. No cash was taken from the register, nor were any items taken from the store.

As a result, police are treating this an attempted homicide.

Rostraver Police released surveillance video that shows the suspect with a gun heading into the store.

Police say the suspect walked into the store and started shooting. He is described as a white male who has a short, thin build. He was wearing sunglasses, dark-colored, knee-length shorts, a lighter colored baggy shirt, some kind of head covering, white, calf-length socks and a bandana covering the lower portion of his face.

"The manager was in the back. He came in the front and they met in the middle," Chief Resetar said.

The store manager, 47-year-old Phillilp Evans, was shot in the hand and the shoulder. He was flown to Allegheny General Hospitals to be treated for his injuries. After the shooting, police say the suspect left the store through a back door and ran away on foot.

Meanwhile, the manager went outside through the front doors to call police from his car.

Police said surveillance cameras inside the store were not working, but they know there was a physical altercation between the manager and the suspect.

Anyone who recognizes the man in the surveillance photo should call Rostraver Police.
