Witness Describes 'Deafening Roar' Of Tornado In Butler Co.

BUTLER (KDKA/AP) – Officials have confirmed that an EF0 tornado touched down in Butler County Thursday night.

According to the National Weather Service, the tornado was located near Renfrew.

A tornado warning was issued for parts of Butler County around 9:45 p.m.

When the alert was issued, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Evans City.

Last night, there were reports of trees down on Spithaler School Road and Brownsdale Road.

Nancy Gill of Renfew said she heard and felt the impact of the twister.

"You often hear people say it sounded like a train, it's a deafening roar. I said what in the heck was that," she said. "I could hear, I could actually hear it moving away from the house.  It was that quick. The roar was loud yet the movement of that tornado was so fast."

Nobody was hurt in the EF0 twister, which packed winds of 65 to 80 mph, but about 1,500 residences and businesses had lost electrical power at one point.

Though an EF0 is considered weak for a tornado, Gill disagrees.

"I don't think my heart could live through another one that was any higher than that," she said.

By Friday morning, West Penn Power was reporting four small storm-related outages, each affecting no more than 20 customers.
