Hundreds Pay Final Respects To Duquesne Officer Killed In Crash

DUQUESNE (KDKA) – A Duquesne police officer was laid to rest Thursday morning.

Officer Robert Gogo Jr., 40, was killed in a traffic accident Saturday night.

Today, hundreds from Duquesne and several surrounding towns paid their final respects to a police officer everyone called a good guy.

Family and friends said goodbye and celebrated his life at Christ the Light of the World Catholic Church.

"He was so funny, always laughing and joking and giving you a hard time. He was a great guy," Connie Rosenbayger said.\\

Those who knew Gogo could not say enough good things about him and all of the pomp and circumstance at his funeral was in his honor.

According to investigators, Gogo crossed the center line on Richland Avenue in Dravosburg on his motorcycle and collided with a sedan. He was off-duty at the time of the crash.

He leaves behind his 8-year-old son, Robert, and the boy's mother.

"It saddens me that his son, Robert, doesn't have a father anymore. It saddens me, of course, that his friends don't have him anymore and that this world right now doesn't have him anymore," Vince Lamonica said.

"My heart is just breaking for his son, who looks exactly like him," Rosenbayger said.

Just about every pew was filled inside Christ the Light of the World Catholic Church and many of the police officers, firefighters and other emergency crew stood.

Several fundraisers for the family are already in the early stages. One is at the Duquesne Police Department. The other is underway with The Pittsburgh Tour Company.
