WHITE OAK (KDKA) — A police officer was injured Wednesday morning in White Oak when he was involved in a head-on crash while on his way to another traffic accident involving a motorcycle.
Both crashes happened less than a mile apart and within two minutes of each other just before 7:30 a.m. at Jacks Run Road.
According to White Oak Police Chief Lou Bender, the officer was headed northbound towards the first accident with his lights flashing and siren sounding when his cruiser was hit by another car.
The chief says the driver of that car did not see a third vehicle had stopped for the officer. The driver slammed on the brakes and veered left, hitting the police cruiser head-on.
The police officer was taken to Forbes Hospital where he was still being treated on Wednesday afternoon, and the other driver also had to go to the hospital.
There’s no word on either of their conditions.
The first accident happened nearby at Jacks Run Road and McClintock Road. Officials say a car pulled out in front of a motorcycle. The motorcyclist was hospitalized and later died from his injuries. His name has not been released.
The road was closed down, tying up traffic for about 90 minutes, but has since reopened.
