Report: Gateway HS Teacher Accused Of Touching Student's Backside

MONROEVILLE (KDKA) — After receiving a letter from the superintendent, parents at Gateway High School say they're concerned about an alleged incident involving an employee and student. The Monroeville police department says the district has contacted them and are investigating the allegations.

"Hopefully this is an isolated incident," parent Krystie Mallon said.

Parents are shaking their heads after receiving a letter from the Gateway School District Superintendent. The district says it received information that a professional employee may have violated district policy regarding staff/student boundaries.

In the letter, the superintendent goes on to say:

"Gateway High School administrators were informed of these allegations on Tuesday, September 20th and immediately contacted child protective services and notified local law enforcement agencies. This allegation involves one student and stems from an incident within a classroom."

Our partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette say a source familiar with the allegations says the employee is a teacher who was accused of touching a female student's buttocks while walking past her in class.

"Heard he had allegations a couple years ago, but still have him on staff, that kinda frustrates me that it's been on so long. And they're just now letting teachers and parents know about it," parent Richard Howard said.

In the letter, the superintendent went on to say:

"As a district, we are deeply concerned about this allegation and will always maintain that our top priority is protecting students/staff and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment."

"I think it's unfortunate that it continues to happen at a variety of schools. It's a shame because we send them to school hoping they are safe here," Mallon said.

The name of the employee is not being released since no charges have been filed.

The employee was placed on immediate paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
