Man Charged In Shooting Death Of Roommate After Fight

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) – A man has been charged with criminal homicide and assault in the shooting death of a roommate who had climbed into their western Pennsylvania home through a window after forgetting his key.

Authorities in Cambria County said police were called to the Johnstown home and found 28-year-old Thomas Gibson with a gunshot wound to the torso. He was taken by ambulance to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, where he died early Saturday.

Authorities allege in a criminal complaint that Gibson had been out drinking and didn’t have his key, so he got in through a window, but an argument ensured with 44-year-old Lonnie Minerd and the two traded punches before Minerd got a gun and fired.

Court documents don’t list an attorney; a listed number for Minerd couldn’t be found Sunday.

IF he had shot him when he first came thru the window…he wouldn’t be in jail now. But once he recognized him as his roommate, he lost all protection under the Castle Doctrine.
I have told my wife, kids, and anyone who has stayed with us..IF you are coming home early or unannounced, better sound off coming thru the door, or you run the high risk of getting shot. Crawl thru my window-you WILL be shot!
We with military & law enforcement training, march to a different drum than regular civilians. I am sure anyone with training like I have had in my life, has had this same talk with their loved ones. I’m retired now, hope I never have to shoot anyone again in my life. But rest assured I will IF necessary to defend myself, or loved ones.
If only this guy had been trained to know when you can/can’t shoot. His life is forever changed. And the sad thing is he probably things he did no wrong.
