Get Marty: Family Fights To Stop Illegal Dumping On Dunbar Twp. Property

DUNBAR TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A local family fighting to get illegal dumping stopped on their property reached out to Get Marty.

"It was my grandpa's farm. He's gone now. To see what this looks like. It's ridiculous," says Jonathan Smiley.

The Smiley family has lived on family property in Dunbar Township for more than 50 years.

For 20 years or so strangers have been illegally dumping trash on their property, and the Smileys say they have had enough.

"We live on a back road. Folks think they can snake out here and dump trash. It has to stop," says Julie Smiley.

The Smileys sent the Get Marty team photographs of tons of trash illegally dumped. KDKA got Dunbar Township to clean up that mess.

However, two days after the property was cleaned up, there was more trashed dumped on the property.

"We need a permanent solution," says Julie Smiley.

A trash recycling company has agreed to put a dumpster on the property. Advanced Disposal says they will also haul it out for free.

Meantime, the state police have been notified. Troopers promise they will prosecute anyone caught dropping trash illegally on the Smiley property.
