PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Is it a car or a motorcycle?

“It’s actually under a new classification called an autocycle,” says car dealer Josh Snow of Chicora, as he drives the three-wheeled vehicle.

The owner of Snow’s Polaris says the new Slingshot Roadster is a great combination. Pennsylvania is one of about 20 states that doesn’t require a separate driver’s license.

“If you’re licensed for a car, you’re licensed to drive this,” Snow says.

He says the manual transmission gives the Slingshot a sports car-feel.

“It brings the fun back into driving, having a five-speed manual. You’re always in the right gear. If you want to get out on the highway, cruise, you drop the noise level down, get good fuel economy,” Snow says.

He says gas mileage is similar to that of the average motorcycle. He adds that the flashy three-wheeler is an attention getter.

“The reaction from most people has been… they’ve never seen anything like it before,” Snow says. “It looks like a car coming down the road from the front, and you see it from the back, and it has that third wheel, which makes it a motorcycle.”

Snow’s Polaris has sold about 60 of the new vehicles since the first ones rolled off the assembly line 15 months ago. His customers range in age from 20 to 80.
