Crews Battle Flames At Triangle Bar & Grill

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Firefighters rushed to Swissvale Thursday after a fire broke out at a popular bar.

Around 11 a.m., the Triangle Bar & Grill on Monongahela Avenue filled with smoke and flames.

By 11:45 a.m., pictures from News Chopper 2 showed emergency vehicles parked outside, but no fire could be seen coming from the building.

Officials say the flames were mostly contained to the kitchen. A hole had to be cut in the wall from the outside to reach the flames.

Owner Tom Crombie told KDKA welders were working near the back and it is suspected a spark was the cause of the fire.

"And welders were welding and apparently a spark caught the electrical and the wood inside the building on fire and worked its way up. We weren't aware until all of a sudden one of my employees started yelling 'fire,'" he said.

Everyone escaped safely.

Crombie says the business should be back open in a few days or a week.

"Home of the battleship, this isn't going to sink us either. This fire is it going to stop us from doing what we do best," he said.

The Triangle Bar & Grill will need a blessing from the health department before opening its doors.

The business has been around for 65 years, but the Crombie family has owned it since March 17, 1982.
