Donegal Residents Cleaning Up After Damaging Storms

DONEGAL (KDKA) - Some powerful storms caused extensive damage in parts of Westmoreland County Thursday night.

Residents in the Laurel Highlands Campland in Donegal said the storm hit around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The powerful storm caused one woman's garage to overturn on top of her shed.

Ellen Ritenour said wasn't home when the storm hit, but a neighbor alerted her to the damage.

"My neighbor texted me and told me my garage blew away," Ellen Ritenour said. "I pulled in with the headlights facing and there's my garage laying there on its roof, my brand new car covered with wood. I don't even have 300 miles on my car."

The magnitude of the wind, combined with the rain and hail took Kenneth Ferree by surprise.

"I bounced off the ceiling, I went over the countertop and I landed on the floor," he said.

The wind lifted him off his feet and moved his mobile home off its foundation.

"[It's a] 30-foot travel trailer that's secured on the foundation and it lifted it about two feet in the air. I think the only thing that saved me is the tip-out on the one side hit the ground," he said.

Insurance adjusters will be assessing the total cost of the damage.
