Officials say the child was a 9-year-old female and she was struck in the ankle.

She was taken to Children's Hospital and is expected to recover.

Eyewitnesses say the child was walking with friends when she was shot.

"I looked out the window and I seen her on the ground, I ran and grabbed a towel, someone else was holding a towel on her, I told him to put pressure on it" said Marion Henderson Jr.

"This guy took his shirt off and wrapped it around the gunshot wound, and put a towel on it to help with pressure, and I took my belt off and used it as a tourniquet," said Ivory Hines.

Detectives do not believe the girl was the intended target.

The suspect is described as a black male who was wearing a black tassel hat, a black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

Later on Friday, another female child was hit by gunfire, along with a 19-year-old.
