Grace Life Church Honors Monroeville Police Officers
MONROEVILLE (KDKA) -- It was appropriate for the morning service at Grace Life Church in Monroeville to open with a song from Monroeville police officer Jim Markol. This is the second annual police appreciation event called Honoring Blue.
"My Bible tells me give honor to who honor is due, there's a thin blue line in our community. To all of our police, I see Rankin, Turtle Creek, I see Murrysville, I see Monroeville," said pastor Bruce Schafer.
Pastor Schafer says the church and the Borough of Monroeville are joining together to recognize police officers who sacrifice their lives everyday to protect and serve their communities.
"We want to have this event to say you know what, there's a lot of good guys out there," he said. "There's a thin blue line that keeps chaos from our communities and order. We want them to feel lifted up, we want them to feel loved and respected."

"This is just about telling them thank you for what they do for us, because when there is trouble, they don't run away from it. They run to it," said Mayor Greg Erosenko.
Pastor Schafter praised the Monroeville Police Department for their dedication and professionalism. Chief Doug Cole appreciates the recognition.
"No officer gets up in the morning comes here to do his job thinking he's going to shoot somebody. They come here to do his job, do his shift, go on and do their service to the community," he said.
The service ended with a prayer for all police officers.
"I pray that protection over them and I pray these men won't have to take someone's life, you'll give them wisdom and understanding to dismantle hard situations."
