20 Steelers Greats Gather For Special Reunion At Heinz Field

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The list of retired Pittsburgh Steelers greats reads like a who's who of professional football. Two dozen are already enshrined in the Hall of Fame in Canton.

This weekend, 20 of them were back at Heinz Field for a reunion before the game.

They are legends of days gone by - a tie to the glory days of old. Yet, Casey Hampton admits some things have not changed a bit.

"Being back, hanging out with the guys and chilling with them, talking about the old times, you know, it made me feel a little bit old, you know. But, it makes you feel a little bit better when you see these guys a lot older than me," Hampton said.

Hampton was among the Steelers alumni who were back at Heinz Field Sunday before the game against New England.

"We were having so much fun playing together that Sundays were a blur because we cared about each other so much and going out and playing for each other," Plaxico Burress said.

This reunion focused around the group of men who played the first 15 years at Heinz Field -- guys like Alan Faneca and Jerome Bettis -- and the running back simply known as Fu.

"Family organization. We all reminisce about how we all left and went to other organizations," Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala said. "But definitely, I respect the Rooneys. I respect the organization for everything that they did for my career."

While their presence was not enough to push the Steelers past the Patriots Sunday afternoon, they say it was well worth the trip back to their Pittsburgh roots.

"That still remains in this organization. You know, it's a special place and these are my brothers for life, and everybody stays in contact, and that's what I remember the most," Burress said.
