Man Charged With Abusing, Threatening To Kill Pregnant Girlfriend

NEW STANTON (KDKA) – A man has been arrested after allegedly abusing his pregnant girlfriend in Westmoreland County.

According to police, the incident took place at the Days Inn in the 100 block of West Byers Avenue in New Stanton. Police were called to the hotel around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday for a domestic dispute.

When they arrived, they found a woman in an ambulance suffering from multiple bumps and red marks on her face.

The woman, who is seven months pregnant, said she was living at the hotel with her boyfriend, 32-year-old Jesse Spade.

Spade was allegedly drunk when he returned to the hotel and an argument ensued. The woman claimed Spade punched her in the face several times and pushed her to the ground. At that time, she said Spade put his hand over her mouth and nose and told her he was going to kill her.

"He immediately starts to punch her and physically assault her," said Trooper Stephen Limani, of Pennsylvania State Police. "He pushes her to the ground, she lands on her stomach. She's seven months pregnant."

Eventually, she was able to get free and run to the front desk of the hotel for help. Spade followed in nothing but his underwear.

"He threatened to kill his girlfriend," said Trooper Limani.

But a hotel employee helped the victim, locking her in a room. The hotel manager said the employee refused to let Spade through.

"When he was trying to get through the door, she said you're not getting to her. You'll go through me first," Teri Rupert, the hotel manager said of her employee.

Spade took off before police arrived. He was arrested two days later when he surrendered to authorities at a local Sheetz. He is facing a list of charges including, aggravated assault of an unborn child, simple assault, terroristic threats and indecent assault.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 2.

State Police say the victim spent two days in the hospital after the attack. She has been released and continues to recover. The unborn child is expected to be just fine.
