School District Begins Campaign To Fight Drug Addiction With Documentary Screening

BALDWIN (KDKA) -- The Baldwin-Whitehall School District is vowing to stand on the front lines of the battle against the growing drug addiction epidemic, and it started Wednesday night with the screening of a powerful film.

The images and accounts in the documentary "Chasing the Dragon" are heart wrenching.

The film is a project spearheaded by the FBI and DEA, and the Baldwin-Whitehall School District felt its message was so important, they decided to do a screening at the high school.

All members of the community were invited to watch.

Whitehall Police Chief Donald Dolfi told KDKA's Kym Gable, "I hope what it does is raise awareness to the level of the epidemic that is facing all of our communities, every community."

"We didn't approach this as we had an epidemic in our hallways. I think the epidemic is in our community," said Superintendent Dr. Randy Lutz. "I think the school is one of the few places that can reach elements of the community that churches and other social organizations no longer reach. We plan to reach everyone."

The film is available on YouTube.
