Crime Stoppers: 2 Suspects Sought In Crafton Heights Break-In, Murder

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The wife of a man who was killed during a home invasion and robbery earlier this year is telling her side of the story for the first time.

The two men who stormed into her house are still on the loose and she's hoping someone with information will come forward.

"He was a genuine man. Caring, loving innocent," Heidi Cheeks said.

Thomas Cheeks was shot inside his house in Crafton Heights in May.

Police say Cheeks and his family were watching a Pittsburgh Penguins game in their basement, when two men wearing masks burst through the back door

"They then kick in this metal back door, which was actually bowed in," Pittsburgh Police Det. George Satler said.

Police say one of the intruders shot and killed the family dog, while the other pointed a gun at Cheeks' wife.

Police say Cheeks tried to run upstairs to get his own gun, but the men chased him.

"They get up to the bedroom, they ask him where the money is and they're shooting him as they're asking him where the money is," Det. Satler said.

During the incident, the couple's 15-year-old son hid in an upstairs closet. Heidi says he's trying to stay strong through all of this.

Cheeks owned a barbershop on Greentree Road and was hoping to expand the business.

His wife now hopes the police can find his killers.

"I just want someone to come forward. If you know anything, anything will help them. Anything to help solve his murder. I just do not want to see him die this way and not be solved," Heidi said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (412)-255-8477.

There is a $1,000 reward being offered in the case.
