2 Ambridge Police Officers Injured In Altercation With Suspects

AMBRIDGE (KDKA) --- Two Ambridge police officers were injured in a late Monday night altercation.

An anonymous person called 911 to report an ongoing domestic dispute in the 500 block of Maplewood Avenue around 11 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a woman sitting inside a vehicle parked outside the home.

At that time, Richard Cafrelli came out of the home and began yelling at the officers about harassing his wife.  He allegedly started fighting with the officers and tried to pull a gun out of his back pocket.

"One of the individuals actually had a handgun with several magazines. He has a permit that I don't think he's going to have that permit too much longer once he gets charged with these charges," Ambridge Police Chief James A. Mann said.

During the scuffle, one officer suffered a back injury, while the other suffered an ankle injury. Both were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Cafrelli is facing a list of charges including aggravated assault, simple assault and resisting arrest.

Officers used pepper spray on Chelsea Cafrelli, who allegedly tried to interfere with officers as they were placing handcuffs on Richard.

She is facing charges of aggravated assault and public drunkenness.

Another woman will receive summary charges by mail.
