Get Marty: Woman Has Debit Card Stolen, Ends Up In Financial Mess

MONONGAHELA (KDKA) -- A Monongahela woman desperate for help reached out to Get Marty.

"Someone stole my PIN number and my debit card. The credit card company didn't believe me. I had to call Marty," Pattianne Garvey says.

Garvey says she was at a convenience store when a man skimmed her PIN number. She says the man then took more than $500 from her American Express BlueBird debit card.

"He cleaned me out," says Garvey.

She immediately called AMEX. The credit card company didn't initially believe she was ripped off.

"They thought I was involved. They froze my account. I couldn't pay my bills," says Garvey.

We reached out to AMEX and sent a copy of the police report involving the theft of Garvey's card to AMEX. The report identified a suspect who took the money. The suspect also admitted to the theft.

The company looked at the police report and immediately fixed the problem for her by reimbursing the money stolen from her debit card account.

Meanwhile, Garvey says she now covers the keypad of the ATM when she withdrawals cash. She also changes her PIN number on a regular basis.
