Sheriff's Office's K-9 Ranger Tracks Down Suspected Burglar His First Day On The Job

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Allegheny County Sheriff's Office's new bloodhound is off to a good start after tracking down a burglary suspect his first day on the job.

K-9 Ranger was officially sworn in Wednesday morning by Sheriff William Mullen.

Two hours later, the department says he was called to track a burglar in Whitehall.

Officials say the suspect was spotted running through yards and streets, but managed to elude authorities until a neighbor pointed Ranger and his handler in the right direction.

Ranger took it from there, following a scent to a house along Baptist Road.

The K-9 pinpointed three doors at the back of a house there and his handler found a teenager hiding on the back porch behind a stack of folding chairs and arrested him.

Officials say the teen was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for a probation violation.
