Movement Aims To Help Women In Uncomfortable Social Situations
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- In today's digital age, dating apps like Bumble and Tinder are becoming increasingly popular, but with these types of apps also come risks.
"I think women should be aware of everything going on a date for the first time, always," Michelle Maropis, of Moon Township, said.
This is why some people think a new flyer campaign could be a way out for those in trouble.
"I would run to the bar and tell them immediately," Maropis said.
A county in England came up with the idea. It started posting the fliers in bathroom stalls advising anyone who feels unsafe to go to the bartender and "Ask for Angela," a code word for anyone who needs help.
"That's smart actually because no one knows what you're doing," Pitt student Samantha Walter said.
"If I were to be on one of those dating apps, I would definitely want an escape route," Sara Moretz, of Pittsburgh, said.

"Anyone could want to bail out of a date, doesn't have to be just because they're creepy either. They could just not like the person at all," Jessie Fontane, of Moon Township, said.
The copy on the flyer reads:
- "Are you on a date that isn't working out?"
- "Is your Tinder or Plenty of Fish date not who they say they were on their profile?"
- "Do you feel like you're not in a safe situation?"
- "Does it all feel a bit weird?"
Brian Borres, a manager at Sienna Mercato downtown, says he's talked about the campaign to his staff and would love to bring it to his restaurant.
"In a digital age, people don't get to know each other as well as they need to, so if there's a program or system to keep people safe or comfortable, we'd be as supportive as we could in that situation," Borres said.
Pittsburgh Action Against Rape is in support of this campaign idea. The organization shared the flyer on its Facebook page to spread awareness of combatting sexual assault.
